The Wagner organisation has maintained "quite high recruitment standards" in prior battles, according to the UK's minister of defence, as many of its operatives had previous military experience.
However, the ministry added that the admission of offenders with medical issues exposes "an strategy which currently prioritises numbers over experience or quality."

According to Ukraine's military intelligence agency, more than 100 detainees have been deployed with coloured bracelets designating their sicknesses. The organisation also noted that other soldiers are expressing "increasing displeasure at this situation."
