Since the registration procedure began on Friday, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has received 94,281 applications for the Agnipath recruitment scheme. Following the plan’s June 14 announcement, violent protests against it erupted in numerous states and lasted for almost a week. Several opposition parties have since demanded its cancellation.

According to the programme, young people between the ages of 17 and a half and 21 would be hired for a four-year term, with 25% of them later hired for regular service. The government announced a number of appeasement measures, such as giving Agniveers preference in central paramilitary forces and defence public sector undertakings upon retirement, on June 16, raising the upper age restriction for enlistment under the scheme from 21 to 23 for the year 2022.
