The Supreme Court ruled on Friday that “some argue consumption of booze in modest quantities might be helpful,” according to IANS, dismissing a recent petition calling for warning signs to be placed on the bottles of alcohol being sold in the nation.
In addition, the Supreme Court ruled to reject a petition calling for legislation to control the manufacture, sale, and use of narcotics and alcoholic beverages in the nation’s capital as well as the placement of health warning labels on alcohol bottles and cigarette packs.
The Supreme Court bench remarked that there are opposing viewpoints and that some individuals believe that moderate alcohol consumption is healthy, but that comparable claims are not made concerning smoking cigarettes. The Supreme Court bench dismissed the petition and added that there are opposing viewpoints.
In accordance with Articles 21 and 47 of the Constitution, the Delhi government was also ordered in the petition to conduct “health effect assessments” and “environmental impact assessments” of the manufacture, distribution, and use of alcoholic beverages and illegal narcotics.
