In the first phase of provincialisation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated 26 private colleges in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) will be brought under government control. Sarma met with a team from the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) to discuss the educational sector’s growth in the BTR in accordance with the Bodo Accord.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), “it was decided that 26 venture colleges will be taken up in BTR in the first phase of provincialisation, as requested by the delegation.” The Higher Education Department will examine the status of schools, infrastructure, existing faculty credentials, and the need for new recruiting before taking necessary measures, according to the statement.
“The meeting also decided, in accordance with NEP 2020, to develop appropriate Bodo language teacher posts in schools in Bodo areas. In all government and provincialized colleges, a single cadre role would be created “According to the CMO’s announcement. According to Sarma, a Bodoland University campus would be built in Udalguri, along with scientific and law colleges in the BTR, and a specific Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for the Bodo medium will be held.
The chief minister was also instructed to organise an advisory group comprised of officials from the WPTBC Department, Education Department, ABSU, and BSS to oversee the appropriate execution of the decisions made at the meeting.
