Assam : 7-day quarantine compulsory for international arrivals .

The Assam government on Sunday evening published an SOP in wake of the Omicron threat ,making it mandatory for all international passengers arriving in the state from at-risk countries to go for seven day quarantine even if they test covid negative at the airport .

Those who are found to be positive will be hospitalised as per protocol and their samples will be sent for genome sequencing to confirm Omicron variant infection .

A health department release , however said child travellers below five years of age have been exempted from testing, through they will be tested if found with Covid symptoms .

State health minister Keshab Mahanta said the administration of the districts having airports have been entrusted with the responsibility of keeping such international travellers under continuous survelliance and maintaining regular communication .

The SOP for Assam has been prepared on the basis of the government of India guidelines , issued after the emergence of the omicron variant of Covid-19 .
