Assam Municipal Election: CM lauded supporters on winning 60 uncontested wards for BJP-AGP Alliance
Guwahati: In the state-ensuing Municipal polls, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) have won at least 60 wards out of the total 977 wards already.
Out of the 977 total wards going to the civic polls, BJP had contested in some 833 and AGP in 92 wards.
Stating the development, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to express his gratitude, said “As filling of nomination ends for ensuing Municipal polls, out of 977 wards BJP put up 883 candidates and our alliance partner AGP put up 92 candidates. I’m happy to share that we have won 60 wards uncontested including the municipality board of north Guwahati and Sootea.”
He added, “This is a reflection of the unwavering support of people of Assam towards the development agenda of our BJP-led alliance. My sincere gratitude to the people for reposing their faith in our Govt’s policies. I seek your continued support in the forthcoming municipal elections.”
It is also noted that for the first time, EVMs are going to be used in any local body elections in the state and the voting machines will be used in all the polling stations.
Opposition party of Congress has contested in 921 wards. Urban polls for 80 municipal boards will be held across Assam on March 6.
While the last date of nomination filing was February 15, the last date for withdrawal of candidature was fixed on February 20. Counting of EVMs will be held on March 9.
