In a study conducted by the Indian Police Foundation for the year 2021, the Assam Police came in third overall in the country in terms of public perceptions and citizen satisfaction (IPF).
IPF employed six competency-based criteria and three values-based dimensions of trust in the survey, based on the philosophy behind the Prime Minister’s SMART policing concept.
“We believe that these annual surveys would be an ideal strategy to nudge state police organizations to strive for improved public perception and trust levels, year after year, by continuously improving their professional competencies and ethical values, and thus the quality of their service to the people,” according to the survey report released on Thursday.
The SMART Scores are a scale of one to ten that indicate levels of citizen satisfaction, with ten representing the highest degree of satisfaction. With an index value of seven or higher, the highest levels of public satisfaction with the quality of policing were found in Andhra Pradesh (8.11), Telangana (8.10), Assam (7.89), Kerala (7.53), Sikkim (7.18), Mizoram (7.14), and Gujarat (7.04), in that order. Nineteen states and UTs scored between six and seven, while three states scored between five and six.
