Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, retaliated against his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday for his remarks regarding the “closure” of 34 schools in the northeastern state due to students’ failure to pass the Class X exams this year. Kejriwal had tweeted on Wednesday in response to the action taken by the Assam administration that closing schools was not a solution and that many new schools needed to be opened all around the nation.
The leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) urged the Bharatiya Janata Party-led administration in Assam to concentrate on enhancing education in those establishments rather than closing schools.

The Assam Chief Minister revealed specifics, saying that since 2013, 6802 private elementary schools and 1589 private secondary schools had been provincialized (or taken under the control of the government) in the northeastern state.
81 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas, 3 Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Avashik Vidyalayas, 38 Adarsh Vidyalayas, and 97 Tea Garden Model Schools were also freshly founded in previous years, according to Sarma. Inquiring about Delhi’s statistics, he tweeted.
According to prior reports, the Assam government has chosen to “close” 34 state-run schools because none of their students were successful in passing either the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) or Class X board exams this year.
The closed schools will be amalgamated with other adjacent government schools, and teachers and pupils will be accommodated there, according to a state secondary education department official.
