‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ is an initiative by the ministry of culture to mark celebrations for India’s 75th year of Independence under which citizens are being encouraged to hoist the tricolour at their homes during August 13-15.
Congress criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, calling it “hypocrisy,” for presenting a historical fact about Jawaharlal Nehru and the tricolor. PM Modi released a photo of the first tricolor that Nehru unfurled as well as information about the official communications that led to the tricolor’s acceptance as the national flag while urging Indians to hoist or display it at their houses between August 13 and August 15.
“Today, July 22, has a unique significance in our history. Our country adopted its national flag on this day in 1947. Pandit Nehru unfurled the first Tricolor, and the prime minister shared some intriguing historical facts about the commission responsible for it.
When resisting colonial authority, many people dreamed of raising a flag for a free India. Today, we remember their incredible courage and work. We reaffirm our dedication to achieving their goals and creating the India of their dreams.
Senior Congress politician Rajya Sabha member Jairam Ramesh responded to the comments with harsh words.
The Congress politician penned “Hypocrisy Zindabad!” on Twitter.
“From someone destroying the means of subsistence of those who weave the Khadi that Nehru once referred to as the livery of India’s liberation.”
From someone who was a pracharak in the group that took 52 years to hoist the national flag in Nagpur, he said, “From me!”
In December 2021, the Flag Code of India, 2002 was changed to permit the production and import of polyester and machine-made flags. The BJP, according to Congress, is ignorant of the liberation fight and its symbols and has demanded that the amendment be withdrawn.
“PM Modi has undermined the spirit of “khadi” and Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy by allowing the import of foreign and machine-made polyester flags. In addition to guaranteeing that thousands of workers lose their jobs, he has turned the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign into “Har Ghar Mein Cheen Ka Bana Hua Tiranga,” making fun of it. The “champion of khadi” will preside over khadi’s demise, exposing himself as a “Polyester Monopolist,” “Ajoy Kumar, a spokesperson for Congress, had told media this month.
