Centre Orders Blocking Of PFI’s Websites, Social media accounts, Affiliates For Its Unlawful Activities
In order to stop the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its eight affiliates from continuing to promote their activities hours after being outlawed by the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) late on Tuesday, the Centre ordered the blocking of their websites and social media accounts.
The PFI, Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation, and Rehab Foundation (Kerala) websites, Twitter accounts, Facebook pages, Instagram accounts, YouTube channels, and other online presences have been permanently blocked. They were also taking down the content they had posted.
The websites for PFI, RIF, and AIIC were restricted at the time this report was submitted. According to an official who wished to remain unnamed, the blocking of others was being done at the department of telecoms’ request. According to the official, Facebook and Twitter were given instructions to delete any accounts or anything associated with PFI, which is officially classified as a terror organization.
PFI has been labeled a “illegal association” and is not permitted to make any press announcements.
