Conrad Sangma calls Amit Shah and seeks for his blessing.
Twenty seats have been won by the National People's Party, which is currently in the lead in five assembly seats. With 11 seats, the United Democratic Party (UDP) has won. Five seats have been gained by the Congress so far. As of 4.16 p.m., the Election Commission had announced that the BJP had won two seats and was currently leading in one assembly seat. As the ballots are being counted for the Meghalaya assembly, supporters of all the parties involved gathered at the Polo Ground in Shillong. Outside of CM Conrad Sangma's home in Tura, NPP supporters have congregated in anticipation of a victory.
After his National People's Party (NPP) failed to win a majority in the state elections, Sangma approached Shah to ask for his assistance in gaining a second term. According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, his plea was instantly approved.
