Cristiano Ronaldo signs a 200 million euro contract to join Al-Nasr

Cristiano Ronaldo has made headlines by signing a surprise two-and-a-half year agreement worth 200 million euros each season with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr after Manchester United just terminated his contract. Prior to the Portugal captain's Round of 16 match against Switzerland on Wednesday at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar, the news was published by renowned Spanish source Marca. The controversial bombshell interview with broadcaster Piers Morgan led to the 37-year-old's termination from his contract with Manchester United. He claimed in the interview that he felt betrayed by the Premier League team and that some senior club members had been trying to get him to leave Old Trafford. 

He also criticised manager Erik ten Hag in the interview, and earlier in the year, ten Hag punished him for refusing to enter the game as a substitute during a 2-0 victory over Tottenham.

After 12 years in Madrid and Turin, Ronaldo made a spectacular comeback to Old Trafford in 2021 during the summer transfer window. After his initial stay, which ended in 2009, he left the English team. After his comeback, he finished the season with 24 goals across all leagues, including 18 in the Premier League, placing him third in the league behind Golden Boot winners Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-Min. 

He also won the club's Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award and was chosen to the Premier League Team of the Year. Although he put on incredible performances, United finished in sixth place and missed out on the UEFA Champions League. Ten Hag was benched upon Ten Hag's arrival because the Dutch manager preferred Marcus Rashford as the lone striker. In his ten 2022–23 Premier League games before to the World Cup, Ronaldo only managed one goal and two goals in the Europa League. He recorded two assists in the Europa League in the meantime.
