Former SpaceX engineer accused Elon Musk's company of age discrimination, saying "Retire or die."

Johnson is also said to have spoken with SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell, who reportedly gave him the assurance that the appropriate steps would be taken but did not follow through. Notably, several employees, including women, have claimed to have experienced sexual harassment, so this is not the first time SpaceX has been accused of having a toxic work environment.

John Johnson, a 62-year-old engineer who worked for Elon Musk's SpaceX, has charged the business with age discrimination. Despite working 10–12 hours per day, seven days per week, at the company's office in California since being hired as an optical engineer in 2018, the employee complained of a prejudiced workplace. In a blog post, Johnson made these revelations and claimed that he was under pressure to resign from his position. Johnson revealed in his explosive blog that he underwent physical therapy for his injured back in the beginning of 2019 but was able to keep his job. However, he informed his manager that he would need a few days off because the injury required surgery. The former SpaceX engineer claimed that the business made decisions without telling him.Johnson claimed that those hired to replace him had much less experience than he did: "These young men in their twenties and thirties descended upon me right before my surgery, scheduling meetings for a download on everything I was doing in those areas." In addition, he claimed that his complaint to human resources was dismissed as the result of "misunderstandings," which led him to claim that age discrimination is pervasive in the workplace. Johnson also disclosed that, according to an engineer hired to fill his position, his Starlink manager had said that he "might retire or die."Johnson is also said to have spoken with SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell, who reportedly gave him the assurance that the appropriate steps would be taken but did not follow through. Notably, several employees, including women, have claimed to have experienced sexual harassment, so this is not the first time SpaceX has been accused of having a toxic work environment.
