During the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Anna Horodetska fled her house in Kyiv. Anubhav Bhasin, her boyfriend, proposed to her almost as soon as she arrived in Delhi.
Anubhav is a lawyer who practises in the Delhi High Court. Anna worked for a technology firm. When she first met Anubhav, she was visiting India in early 2020. Anna was stranded in India once the lockdown was announced and flights were cancelled, so she moved in with Anubhav in Delhi.
“We reconnected in Dubai after the lockdown ended, and she travelled to India while I travelled to Kyiv. She visited India in December of last year and met my family, after which we agreed to marry. She then returned to Ukraine “Anubhav expressed his thoughts.
On February 24th, during the Russia-Ukraine war, Anna awoke to the sound of a bomb. During the next three days, she was in and out of bomb shelters. She and her mother decided to flee to Poland with their dog after that.
She decided to take a bus to Poland on February 27th, but learned that people had been stuck at the border for over 24 hours and had not been able to cross. She decided to take a bus instead to the Slovakian border. It took her a couple of hours to walk across the border after waiting for a couple of hours.
From there, she boarded a minibus for Kraków, Poland, where she spent two weeks. Anubhav had some friends in Poland who helped Anna find accommodation.

At the Indian consulate in Poland, Anna requested for a visa. She travelled to Delhi after receiving a one-year visa. Anubhav proposed to Anna at the airport as soon as she arrived, just like in a romantic scene.
Anna will apply for Indian citizenship when Anubhav and Anna finally marry.
