Disabilities aren’t disabilities if you work hard enough to make them your abilities, as the Indian girls demonstrated at the World Deaf Judo Championship in Paris Versailles, France. The J&K deaf team took first place, giving the state’s sporting performance another boost. Rakshanda Mehak, a member of the Indian deaf team, won the bronze medal in the semifinals by defeating the South Korean team.
Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Farooq Khan congratulated the winning squad and complimented coach Suraj Bhan Singh for training the athletes, saying they have not only brought laurels to the country but are giving international sportsmen a stiff challenge.
Khan stated that more sophisticated facilities are being introduced to properly train the athletes and that the day will not be far off when J-K athletes will be considered second to none both domestically and internationally.
Our National Girls team won a bronze medal, with Nirchara Umed of Haryana competing in the under 57 KG category, Divya Tiwari of Uttar Pradesh competing in the under 52 KG category, and Rakshanda Mehak of J&K adding another feather to their cap. The championship was conducted in Versailles, France from October 26 to October 30, 2021.
