According to sources, an earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter Scale struck 59 kilometres west-southwest of Vellore, Tamil Nadu, around 4.17 a.m. today.
For the past several months, the country has been hit by a series of tremors; last week, Himachal Pradesh experienced three in a row. Last Monday, the North East was shaken by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake.
While the southern half of the country has been flooded by heavy to heavy rain for the past few weeks, causing devastation in many areas.
The fact that earthquakes are now occurring has added to the panic among the population.
