Linthoi Chanambam of India won a historic gold medal in the World Cadet Judo Championship in Sarajevo, becoming the first athlete from the nation to achieve so in any age division.
The 15-year-old Manipur native beat Bianca Reis of Brazil in the women’s 57kg competition at the Arena Hotel Hills to take first place.

On the third day of the Asian Cadet & Junior Judo Championship 2022 in Bangkok in July, she took home a gold medal and started India’s medal count.
The Indian Sports Authority (SAI) took note of the young athlete’s outstanding performance on the international scene.

Linthoi, one of India’s most promising judokas, initially displayed some of her talent in 2018 when she won gold at the Sub-junior National Championships.
