Election results 2022: BJP all set to sweep Gujarat, Congress ahead in Himachal

The BJP is aiming for a record-extending seventh term in the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi while attempting to buck the anti-incumbency trend in the home state of party president JP Nadda as the stage is set for the counting of votes for the assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. In Gujarat, the results according to the exit polls point to a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party, but the survey companies are split on the outcome in Himachal Pradesh.
In Dabhoi, Dahegam, and Dahod, the BJP candidates Shaileshbhai Kanaiyalal Mehta (Shailesh Sotta), Chauhan Balrajsinh Kalyansinh, and Kanaiyalal Bachubhai Kishori are in the lead.
In Bhuj, Chhota Udaipur, Choryasi, and Chotila, respectively, BJP candidates Keshubhai Patel, Rajendrasinh Rathva, Sandip Desai, and Chauhan Shamajibhai Bhimajibhai are in the lead. In Borsad and Chanasma, respectively, Congress candidates Parmar Rajendrasinh Dhirsinh and Thakor Dineshbhai Ataji are in the lead.
Kuldeep Singh Rathore, the former president of the state's Congress, is ahead of Theog in Himachal Pradesh by 708 votes. Himachal Pradesh chief minister Jairam Thakur is leading with a total of 14,921 votes in his constituency Seraj. In the politically vital Kangra district, the Congress is in the lead on 8 of the district's 15 seats, followed by the BJP on six, and an independent on one.
The primary obstacle for Congress in Gujarat will be maintaining its status as the main opposition, as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a newcomer, waged an intensive campaign to gain ground in the state. The results of the election will determine whether the AAP has a chance to become a national party and a rival to the BJP at the federal level.
The grand old party, which is preoccupied with Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, anticipates that voters in Himachal Pradesh will follow a nearly four-decade-old custom and vote out the current administration. With 68 seats in the assembly, the BJP won 44 seats, the Congress 21, the CPI-M won one, and two seats went to independent candidates in the 2017 Himachal Pradesh assembly elections.
