According to Reports, India’s first COVID-19 fatality connected to the fast-spreading Omicron form occurred on Wednesday in the western state of Rajasthan, according to a federal health ministry official.
On December 15, the man tested positive for Covid and has been in the hospital ever since. The individual is said to have comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension, among others.
His samples were sent for genome sequencing, and on December 21, he was discovered to be Covid negative. The man had received two vaccinations and had no prior contact or travel history.
On December 25, the findings of his genome sequencing revealed that he carries the Omicron variation. He died six days later, around 3:30 a.m. on December 31.
In the previous eight days, India has seen a 6.3-fold surge in cases. The Health Ministry reported a substantial increase in case positive from 0.79 percent on December 29, 2021 to 5.03 percent on January 5, 2019.
Maharashtra, West Bengal, Delhi, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Jharkhand, and Gujarat are among the states where cases have increased. According to the survey, 28 areas throughout the country are registering weekly positive of more than 10%.
