The five Congress MLAs who backed the MDA coalition led by the NPP are likely to be suspended. The MPCC president, Vincent Pala, announced this on Friday, saying that the AICC is opposed to the decision and that legal action will be taken against them.
He stated that all five will be served with show-cause notices and would most likely be suspended. The MPCC head stated that the remaining 55 constituencies could not be lost for the sake of the five MLAs.
He made it plain that Congress can function without them and that it has the resources to do so. “I am a Congressman and with the party and will adhere to it,” Mayralborn Syiem, a Congress MLA from Ri- Bhoi, said. I can’t say much about this development because the ball is in the party’s court.”
Mahendro Rapsang, a West Shillong Congress legislator, agreed with Syiem and stated he attended the meeting because he is a Congressman and wants to stay that way. He declined to say further but stated that the final choice rests with the party and that this would affect their decision in the future.
