Floodwater submerged several temples after the Godavari river level rose

As a result of monsoon rains and the release of water from the Gangapur dam, which provides drinking water to the city, temples in Nashik, Maharashtra, became buried in floodwater on Monday.

On Monday, the Nashik region of Maharashtra continued to experience heavy rains, which caused the water levels of various rivers to rise and the submersion of numerous temples that are situated along the Godavari riverbed, according to officials.

Additionally, they stated that later in the day’s dam water release will likely cause water levels to surge even higher.

The last 24 hours’ worth of rainfall in Nashik averaged 68.4 millimetres, according to data. The maximum rainfall, 238.8 millimetres, was reported in Surgana, with Trimbakeshwar and Peth following closely behind.

According to the reports, Surgana and Peth have had unusually heavy rainfall compared to other ghat regions like Trimbakeshwar and Igatpuri.

“By observing the water level around the Dutondya Maruti (two-headed Hanuman) deity located on the riverbed, Nashik locals may gauge the severity of floods. Currently, the water level is just below the idol’s waist “The official said.
