Former GNLA Chief Champion Sangma Arrested with Fake Currency; he was a former DSP who became a Militant: Meghalaya

Champion Sangma, the former Chairman of the GNLA, was detained in Guwahati’s Khanapara region with two others for allegedly being involved in the Fake India Currency Notes (FICN) scandal.

Champion Sangma, Gohanch Sangma, and Cherian Momin, who received the FICN valued Rs 15 lakh, were detained by Assam’s Bashista Police Station’s special team. According to a police tweet, the culprit had Rs 10,000 in cash which was original and the remaining in white paper.

Champion Sangma was a former Meghalaya deputy superintendent of police who afterwards became a terrorist. This former cop is now keeping the cops on their toes. He is a co-founder of the militant group GNLA (Garo National Liberation Army), which has been responsible for a number of violent attacks. This former Meghalaya Police Service (MPS) officer is said to have left the force in 2009 to found the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).

According to GP Singh, the special DGP of law & order said that they received an information that a phoney cash transaction was going to occur, along with a vehicle number was received. On the basis of it, a Bolero car was intercepted , and the police found some cash and pieces of paper, as well as police arrested three people in this connection. He emphasized that this is not simply a FICN controversy, but also a case of cheating that needs to be investigated further.
