Grand Welcome of Mirabai Chanu by the people of Imphal brought tears to her eyes…

The silver girl of India, Mirabai Chanu received a rousing welcome in Imphal on Tuesday. Mirabai Chanu was the first Olympic athlete from India who brought a medal to the nation in the Tokyo Olympics 2020. She has not only made her state proud but entire India is cheering her win.

On Monday, Chanu was felicitated by the Sports Authority of India in the national capital in the presence of the Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Shri Anurag Singh Thakur and Former Youth and Sports Affairs Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju.

On arrival of Chanu on Monday in the national capital, she was greeted with chants ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.

The young weightlifter was praised by the minister for her exceptional performance and the hard work she put in.

“First day, first medal, nobody did it. You brought smiles to the faces of 135 crore Indians and the entire nation is proud of you” said the Sports Minister.

Chanu, who returned to the country on Monday evening, lifted a total of 202kg (87kg + 115kg) in the 49kg category.

Chanu said, “I dedicate the medal to the entire nation who stood by me and supported me in my trying times”.

She also added, “This is a dream come true for me. I have been training for this moment for years and I am glad that it all came right for me at the biggest stage of them all, the Olympic Games”.

However, when she reached her home town,Manipur  on Tuesday she received a roaring welcome. Hundreds of well-wishers and her fans were gathered just to get a glimpse of the Silver girl.

Chanu received a grand welcome in the Imphal airport with people flooded all around. She got teary-eyed as she hugged her mother at the airport. Manipur Chief Minister had also arrived at the airport to receive the champ.

Hundreds of people queued throughout her way from the Imphal Airport. People cheered for her and were overwhelmed for making them proud.

The Manipuri Athlete opened India’s tally at the Tokyo Olympics with a silver medal in weightlifting. Manipur Government has decided to appoint her as the new Additional Superintendent of Police (sports) and would also bestow her with a reward of Rs 1  crore.

The eye-catching welcome by the people of her state and country made everybody feel that we are a nation that celebrates every win of its countrymen.
