The seasoned Trent Boult and Martin Guptill were withdrawn from New Zealand's team on Tuesday in preparation for the domestic limited overs series against India, which gets underway here on November 18. While New Zealand Cricket (NZC) elected to give others an opportunity in the six-match series ahead of Boult, who has opted out of a central contract with the board, opener Guptill was dropped to make room for emerging talent Finn Allen.

Allen has been included in both BLACKCAPS squads for the series and is ready to play India for the first time. The 23-year-old Allen has previously participated in 23 T20 matches and 8 ODIs, scoring a hundred and five half-centuries. Tim Southee, Matt Henry (only for ODIs), Lockie Ferguson, Blair Tickner, and Adam Milne make up the pace attack without Boult. Following his return to the T20 International sphere during the most recent Tri Series and the T20 World Cup in the UAE last year, Milne is set to play his first ODI since 2017.

It was never simple, according to head coach Gary Stead, to leave out the wisdom of Boult and Guptill, but the club had to keep looking forward. "We suggested that preference would be given to those players with either central or domestic contracts, and that's been the case here," he said in a statement, "when Trent opted out of his NZC deal in August. "We are all aware of Trent's extraordinary talent, but at this time, as we prepare for larger global events, we want to provide others with opportunity and life-changing experiences.

He continued, "That's just the nature of high performance sport. The emergence and success of Finn at the top of the order in white-ball cricket means a guy of the class of Martin Guptill misses out. The series will serve as the first step in New Zealand's and India's preparations for the ODI World Cup in 2019. We want to give Finn every chance to continue gaining ODI experience, especially against quality opposition like India, since the 50-over World Cup is less than a year away.

The message to both of those guys, Boull and Guptill, according to Stead, is that they still have a lot of international cricket left to play. The tour kicks out on November 18 with a three-game T20 International series spanning Wellington, Tauranga, and Napier before moving into the ODI series across Auckland, Hamilton, and Christchurch on November 25. (Nov 30). With his tally at 199 entering the one-day series, Southee, 33, may become the fifth New Zealander to win 200 ODI wickets. For the ODI team, Tom Latham will take over as the wicketkeeper, while Devon Conway will remain behind the posts for the T20 team. The T20 squad will assemble here on Wednesday, with Kane Williamson serving as captain for both teams.

In order to prepare for his wedding, all-rounder Jimmy Neesham has been excused from the team for the third ODI. Henry Nicholls will take his place for the final game in Christchurch. Due to injury, Kyle Jamieson and Ben Sears, both backs, were passed over for selection. Stead said it was always a great occasion when India visited, and he was confident that the tour will be thrilling for both players and spectators. When India visits a city, "there's always a great vibe," he remarked. "The atmosphere and noise are incredible, and I know the team is eager to return home and play in front of some boisterous home crowds.

India is a star-studded team of the highest calibre, so we are aware that we must perform at the very top of our game. In place of the veteran players, Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya will head India in ODIs and T20s, respectively. Kane Williamson is the captain of the T20 squad, which also includes Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway at wicketkeeper, Lockie Ferguson, Daryl Mitchell, Adam Milne, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, and Blair Tickner. Kane Williamson (C), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson, Daryl Mitchell, Adam Milne, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Tom Latham (WK), Matt Henry make up the team for one-day internationals.
