Shri Bhagawad Gita Park’ hate crime is condemned by the Indian embassy in Canada
The “hate crime” at the Shri Bhagavad Gita Park in Brampton was condemned by the Indian High Commission in Canada. The censure is pertinent because it was allegedly vandalised a few days after the park was given its name from the Hindu scriptures.
The incident occurs barely 10 days after India warned Indian citizens living in Canada to be on the lookout since there has been a “sharp surge in hate crimes.”
“We denounce the hate crime that occurred at Brampton’s Shri Bhagavad Gita Park. We implore Peel Police and Canadian authorities to look into the incident and act quickly against the offenders.” the Indian High Commission in Ottawa posted on Twitter. The recently inaugurated park was vandalised, and Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown verified this. Brown declared on Twitter that there is “zero tolerance” in Canada for such actions. He noted: “We are aware of the vandalism done to the freshly unveiled Shri Bhagavad Gita Park sign. We will not tolerate this in any way. Peel Regional Police has been notified so they can conduct additional inquiry. As quickly as possible, the sign will be resolved and corrected by our Parks department.”
