Indian-origin Sikh man won the Australian of the Year award 2022.

The New South Wales government has honoured Sikh man of Indian ancestry Amar Singh with the honorary title of Australian of the Year 2022. Singh received this honour in recognition of his remarkable long-term service to the community.

Amar Singh, a Sikh living in Australia, age 41, received the award for his humanitarian efforts in the community during floods, bushfires, drought, and the Covid-19 pandemic. In the category for "local heroes," Singh received the honour. The national award recognised the accomplishments of community members while highlighting the value of service to Australia as a whole. The NSW government announces the award each year in a number of categories.

According to a press statement from the New South Wales government, Amar Singh, an important proponent of multiculturalism and social cohesion who is of Indian descent, has encountered racial epithets because of his beard and turban.

According to the statement, assisting others shouldn't be constrained by a person's faith, language, or cultural background. Singh, who immigrated to Australia as a teenager, has always been concerned in aiding underprivileged areas.
