At a resident hall on the Indiana campus of Purdue University, a 20-year-old student was allegedly murdered by his roommate overnight and had “several sharp force traumatic injuries.”
The student’s death has raised a number of questions since, according to early autopsy findings, it was a homicide, while other people have labelled it a murder.
On Wednesday, Varun Manish Chheda from Indianapolis who was studying data science, was allegedly murdered by his 22-year-old roommate, who is currently being held by police while an investigation is conducted.
According to the Fox59 television station, Chheda graduated from Park Tudor in 2020.
Chheda will be remembered as a compassionate, wise, and passionate person, according to one of his closest friends, who spoke about him to the television station.
The main suspect in the case is 22-year-old Ji Min “Jimmy” Sha from Korea, Chheda’s roommate. He is currently being held by police. Sha is a junior cybersecurity major from Korea who is studying abroad.
According to Purdue University Police Chief Lesley Wiete, during a news conference on Wednesday morning, Sha contacted 911 at 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday to inform authorities about the deceased. However, no other information on the call or the victim’s manner of death in his room on the first floor of McCutcheon Hall was made public. Police are investigating the death as a homicide.
Later on in the day, an autopsy is planned. The suspect has been detained and escorted to the police station for additional investigation, according to Purdue University Police Chief Wiete.
