A hydrogen fuel bus created jointly by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and private firm KPIT Limited in Pune was revealed by Jitendra Singh, Union minister of state for Science and Technology, yesterday. The hydrogen fuel cell utilizes hydrogen and air to generate power, delivering heat and water simultaneously in the process.
Hydrogen energy cell produce power by combining hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Both the gases reacts across an electrochemical cell like a traditional battery cell to deliver power, water and limited quantities of heat. This power or electricity is then utilized by electric engines to push the vehicle forward.
The minister further laid emphasis on how PM Narendra Modi’s ‘Hydrogen Vision’ plans to make the nation “atmanirbhar” (self-reliant) on clean energy, meet climate change goals, and create employment in the sector.
“About 12-14 percent of CO2 emissions come from diesel-powered heavy vehicles. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles provide excellent means to eliminate on-road emissions in this sector,” he said.
He said, Green hydrogen is a brilliant clean energy vector that allows decarbonization of emmision from the refining industry, fertilizer industry, steel industry, cement industry and furthermore from the heavy commercial transportation industry.
