At the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland, India’s ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra smashed his own record and set a new national mark with a throw of 89.30 meters.
Chopra had previously set a national record of 88.07 meters in Patiala in March of last year.
He took silver in the event with his throw, and it’s worth noting that this was his first competitive appearance since winning the historic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Notably, on August 7, 2021, he won the gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics with a throw of 87.58m, making him the first Indian to win a gold medal for India during the previous edition of the Summer Olympic Games.
Neeraj is also the first Indian to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics, and only the second Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics.
The 24-year-old javelin thrower, on the other hand, knew exactly what he was doing. The Haryana-based athlete had a definite goal in mind after winning the Olympic gold medal. His goal was to break the 90-meter barrier and give himself the best chance to win the World Athletics Championships in the United States.
Chopra made his return to action with a massive throw of 89.30 meters in the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland, which he set a new national record.
