In the 24 hours leading up to 9 a.m. on Friday, India reported 1,17,100 new cases of Covid-19. The active caseload in the country has increased to 3,71,363 with the addition of 30,836 new recoveries. After 302 individuals died from the fatal virus, the death toll rose to 4,83,178. The Omicron variation is seen in 3,007 cases across the country.
In the midst of a statewide spike in cases, Maharashtra registered 36,265 new Covid cases on Thursday, with Mumbai seeing a 31.7 percent increase in the last 24 hours. Dharavi, Asia’s largest slum cluster, had its highest-ever single-day tally on Thursday, according to the city’s statistics.
