The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s recommendation on the 5G spectrum is expected by March, according to telecom minister Ashwani Vaishnaw, after which spectrum action will be undertaken quickly for the implementation of the next-generation service.
The minister stated that the Department of Telecom is working on other auction-related processes in order to begin the spectrum auction as soon as possible.
The minister said “recommendations on 5G are due by March” in response to a question about the Union Budget for 2022-23.
According to him, the budget prioritizes increasing indigenous technological research and development.
The government, according to the minister, will work to have 5G services available in India by 2022.
However, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated today while presenting Union Budget 2022-23 “In 2022, 5G spectrum auctions will be held to help with the rollout of 5G mobile services. As part of the PLI programme, a design-led manufacturing initiative would be introduced in order to create a robust ecosystem for 5G “. The PLI programme aims to make broadband and mobile connectivity more affordable in rural and remote locations. 5 percent of the annual collection under the USOs fund will be dedicated to enabling cheap broadband and mobile service and proliferation in rural areas. This will support and promote technology development and commercialization.
