According to local news sources, the largest airline in India, IndiGo, made an unauthorised landing in Karachi, Pakistan, on Sunday due to a “technical problem.” An unauthorised landing has taken place twice in less than two weeks, including this one.
The flight was scheduled to depart from Hyderabad in southern India and travel to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.
According to a tweet from Reuters local TV partner ANI, which cited the airline, “the pilot of the Sharjah-Hyderabad flight discovered a mechanical issue in the aircraft. As a precaution, the plane was redirected to Karachi, Pakistan.”
According to ANI, IndiGo was sending a second flight to Karachi to transport passengers back to Hyderabad.
The company that runs IndiGo, InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
SpiceJet claims that on July 5, a Boeing 737 making its way from New Delhi to Dubai had to make an emergency landing in Karachi due to a malfunctioning fuel indicator light, which prompted the industry watchdog to issue a warning
