Jamshed J Irani, deemed the 'Steel Man of India,' has passed away at 86

The Steel Man of India, Dr. Jamshed J. Irani, passed away in Jamshedpur on Monday night at the age of 86.

"The passing of Dr. Jamshed J. Irani, often known as the Steel Man of India and recipient of the Padma Bhushan, leaves us in great sorrow. To his family and close friends, the Tata Steel family extends its sincere condolences, the company tweeted on its official account. In a career spanning more than four decades, Dr. Irani, a Padma Bhushan recipient, held the position of director at various Tata Group firms.

On June 2nd, 1936, Dr. Jamshed J. Irani was born in Nagpur. He graduated with a BSc in Science from the city's Science College in 1956, and two years later, in 1958, he earned his MSc in Geology from Nagpur University.
Dr. Irani is survived by his wife Daisy Irani, as well as his three children, Zubin, Niloufer, and Tanaaz. Dr. Irani also held the position of national president of the Confederation of Indian Industry from 1992 to 1993. For his contributions to industry, he received a number of honours, including the Padma Bhushan in 2007.
