“Jholewala fakir in Parliament since 2019”; Mahua Moitra
Mahua Moitra, a member of the Trinamool Congress, tweeted seven images of herself with a bag in the Parliament on Tuesday after the footage of her purported Louis Vuitton high-end bag went viral on social media.
She said on Twitter: “Jholewala fakir in Parliament since 2019” Beggar since 2019 in Parliament: Jhola leke aye the, Jhola leke chal padenge (had brought a bag and would take a bag).
She appeared to be making fun of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who referred to himself as a “fakir” after winning the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The issue started after a video showed Moitra stowing her pricey Louis Vuitton luggage during a Monday Lok Sabha debate on price hike and inflation went viral on social media.
The collage of images featuring numerous of herself was shared by Moitra on Twitter. The TMC MP is seen multiple times throughout the images holding the Louis Vuitton tote bag. Since 2019, Jholewala fakir has served in Parliament. She wrote in her tweet, “Jhola leke aye the jhola leke chal padenge.”
Moitra, who was seated right next to Trinamool’s Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar when she spoke about the price increase, was observed slipping her bag under the table. Her purse reportedly cost more than Rs 1.5 lakh, according to reports.
Following the video’s viral success, internet users began to wonder how an opposition MP could possibly be carrying such a pricey handbag while confronting the administration over the problem of price increases.
