In one of Karnataka’s districts, seven youths were arrested on charges of kidnapping their friend who won over Rs one crore in an online game.
The kidnapped youth, Gareeb Nawaz, was rescued by the police. Upon learning that Nawaz had won a large amount of money in an online game, his friends Mohammad Arif, Imran, Abdul Kareem, Hussain Saab, Imran M, Toufif and Mohammad Razak devised a plan to kidnap him.
The kidnappers called his father and wanted Rs 1 crore as ransom for the victim’s safe release. When Nawaz’s father objected, they compromised for Rs 15 lakh. If the accused did not pay, he threatened to kill his son. Following notification, the police department organised four special squads and initiated an investigation.
Labhuram, the Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner, oversaw the investigation and apprehended the perpetrators.
