Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a Congress leader, stepped out on Wednesday in favor of college students in Karnataka who have been barred from wearing the hijab in class, tweeting that the choice of what to wear is theirs alone and that their right to do so is protected by the Constitution.
Rahul Gandhi also tweeted last week in favor of students’ freedom to wear the hijab in school, saying: “We are robbing the future of India’s girls by allowing kids’ hijab to obstruct their education. All people benefit from Ma Saraswati’s wisdom. She is incapable of distinguishing between the two.”
On Tuesday, a shocking video emerged of a young girl in Mandya being heckled by a throng of enraged men wearing saffron scarves and yelling ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ Before being dragged away from the dangerous scenario, the girl fought back with screams of ‘Allah hu Akbar.’
