Kerala HC asks state govt. why girls in hostels have time limits while boys do not?

The Kerala High Court has questioned the practice of imposing a limit on them at night and ordered the state government to guarantee that girls and women have the same freedom as boys and men at educational institutions.
There is no reason to be afraid of the night, according to Justice Devan Ramachandran, and everyone should be able to venture forth after midnight without dread.
The observations were made during a hearing on a petition filed by five female Kozhikode Medical College students who were challenging a 2019 government directive that limited the movement of students living in dormitories at higher education institutions after 9.30 PM.
During the hearing on the subject, the court questioned why only girls or women need control and not boys or men, and why a curfew of 9.30 PM has been set for women in the medical college's dorms.
Girls must also live in this culture, too. After 9.30 PM, will people start to die? Will mountains erode away? The court stated that the government was responsible for maintaining campus safety and inquired as to whether or not the State had any hostels where boys were subject to a curfew. "Not the girls, but the troublemakers ought to be locked up.
The court questioned, "Are there kids living there without parents?" Additionally, it stated that if the parents want girls or women locked up at night, it would not hold the government responsible. "Let's not be afraid of the dark. Girls should have the same freedom as boys, the court ruled.
