On Tuesday, a special CBI court in Ranchi found RJD chairman Lalu Prasad guilty in the Rs 139.35 crore Doranda treasury fraud, the fifth fodder scam case, and he was remanded into judicial custody.
Lalu Yadav was present in the courtroom Tuesday morning as Judge CK Shashi read out the verdict in all five fodder scam cases in which he was implicated as a conspirator.
There were also 98 other defendants present, 24 of whom were acquitted.
Former MP Jagdish Sharma and former Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Dhruv Bhagat were among the 35 people convicted to three years in prison. As a result, they are eligible to apply for bail. The former Bihar chief minister has requested bail in the CBI court. In his plea, he stated that if he is not allowed bail, he should be taken to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for judicial custody because he is ill. On February 21, the severity of the sentence will be revealed.
Previously, the former Bihar chief minister was convicted in four counts relating to the Rs 950 crore fodder scam and sentenced to 27.5 years in prison. Lalu Yadav had already been convicted in four other cases involving the infamous 950 crore fodder scandal, including illicit withdrawals of 37.7 crore and 33.13 crore from the Chaibasa treasury, 89.27 crore from the Deoghar treasury, and 3.76 crore from the Dumka treasury.
Previously, the former Chief Minister was sentenced to prison six times but was granted bail each time by the High Court.
