As many as eight of the medical staffers will withstand a homicide trial after being accused of criminal negligence in the death of Argentinian soccer legend Diego Maradona.
The soccer legend Maradona was considered by many as one of the greatest soccer players of all time. At the age of 60 in November 2020 he passed away of a heart attack at his home in Buenos Aires.
Among those medical staff who were facing charges are Maradona’s neurosurgeon and personal doctor, Leopoldo Luque, psychiatrist Agustina Cosachov, psychologist Carlos Diaz, two other doctors, two nurses, and their boss. Although, they have all denied responsibility for his death.
Maradona had brain surgery less than two weeks before his passing to remove a blood clot. And the surgeon who performed the brain surgery was Luque who was included in the charge sheet.
After a few days of his death, prosecutors launched a probe into staffers responsible for his round-the-clock care during the time Maradona was recovering from surgery.
