Vikramjit Singh Sahney, a recently elected Rajya Sabha member from Punjab and the international president of the World Punjabi Organization, announced on Monday that he would donate all of his salary—as well as that of his staff—during his six-year term to the education of students from low-income families.
Prior to taking the oath of office in Parliament, Padma Shri Sahney made this announcement. He participated in the ‘kirtan’ and ‘ardaas’ held at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib here prior to the oath.
At the time, Sahney made the announcement that he would contribute all of his and his staff’s wages throughout his term to fund students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He established the Punjab Education Fund, with an initial investment of about Rs 32 lakh per year that will grow to Rs 2 crore in six years.
