The Corbett Tiger Reserve in Uttarakhand’s Almora district was the scene of a horrifying incident in which a tiger attacked two bike-riding guys and carried one of them into the adjacent jungle.
The Corbett Tiger Reserve, one of 50 reserves in India, has the highest tiger density, with 14 tigers residing in every 100 square kilometres, according to the most recent tiger census.
Afsarul, 25, from the Amroha district of Uttar Pradesh, and his friend Mohammad Anas were returning to their village via Ramnagar when the incident happened. Both of them are residents of Amroha’s Jeehal village, which is a part of the Saidnangali police station district.
Around 8.30 p.m., in Mohana Chowki, the event occurred while they were both returning from Nainital. While Anas was able to flee the attack, Bhura was pulled into the jungle by the enormous cat.
According to Virendra Pandey, a forest beat officer in Mohan, “when they reached Mohan region of Kosi range under Ramnagar forest division, a tiger hidden in the bushes attacked them and carried Afsarul into neighbouring jungles,” adding that Anas went to the Mohan police outpost to report the authorities.
“While we were travelling, the tiger suddenly attacked at us, causing our vehicle to lose control, and we both plummeted to the ground. He was being pulled inside the jungle by the tiger as I turned to the other side” said Anas
A bag and a blood-spattered cellphone were reportedly discovered by police 50 metres off National Highway 309. Rajendra Singh, the in charge of Mohana Chowki, said that despite their best efforts, the police have not yet been able to locate the victim.
After the event, bikers have been urged to exercise caution on the roadway, according to Pandey, who also noted that local patrols have been stepped up. According to Chandrashekhar Joshi, divisional forest officer, Ramnagar, three teams of the forest department are looking for Afsarul, and three JCB machines have been deployed to clear a path through the dense forest. “Camera traps have been installed nearby. The teams haven’t been successful in finding the man or the tiger yet,” he said.
