Manipur Assembly Election Dates Revised; Election Commision

The poll dates for the Manipur Assembly election were amended by the Election Commission of India on Thursday (February 10).

According to ANI, voting will take place in two rounds on February 28 and March 5. Manipur’s 60 Assembly seats were up for election on February 27 and March 3.

Politicians and the general public had already requested that the election commission change the date because one of the dates comes on a Sunday, and the bulk of Manipur’s population is Christian. On Sunday, Christians worship and attend church, making it difficult for the general public to vote on that day, which is one of the main reasons for the proposal to change the election date.
