A massive landslide that struck Manipur on Wednesday night killed at least 14 people.
DGP P Doungel said 23 people were brought out of the debris, 14 of whom were dead. It is not confirmed how many people are buried, but as of now 60 people including villagers, army & railway personnel, and labourers are buried.
So far, 13 members of the Territorial Army and five civilians have been rescued safely. In addition, the mortal remains of 9 members of the Territorial Army and one civilian have been recovered. It is expected that the search for missing personnel will continue throughout the day, according to the Indian Army
A major landslide at a railroad construction site in Manipur’s Noney district on June 30 resulted in the disappearance of around 70 individuals.
N. Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur, has been in contact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Minister of the Interior Amit Shah, who have guaranteed the State of their complete assistance. In order to visit Noney and survey the rescue efforts, Mr. Biren cancelled his scheduled professional commitments. The governor of Manipur, La. Ganesan, sent his sincere sympathies to the grieving family. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, expressed sorrow over the deaths.
