Police reported on Thursday that a 33-year-old woman committed suicide after being “forced to undergo abortion 14 times” by her live-in spouse during an eight-year period, citing a suicide note. According to them, the event occurred on July 5 in the south-east Delhi neighbourhood of Jaitpur.
According to authorities, the woman said in her suicide note written in Hindi that she had been in a live-in relationship with a man who had a physical relationship with her on the promise of marriage but refused to marry her, leaving her with no other alternative but to commit suicide.
According to a senior police officer, a complaint of abetment of suicide has been filed against the man who works at a software firm in Noida.
Esha Pandey, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), stated, “On July 5, a PCR call was received regarding a woman’s suicide in Jaitpur. A police squad was dispatched to the location where a woman was discovered hanging in a room. She was promptly transferred to AIIMS, where doctors confirmed her dead.”
“The hanging stool and the deceased’s cellphone were taken. Following preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the woman had been living apart from her spouse for the past seven and a half years “she stated.
“We have registered a case under sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 376 (rape), and 313 (causing miscarriage without the consent of the woman) of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigation has begun,” the DCP stated.
