Conrad Sangma and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah today
In order to inform the Center of the violence that occurred on November 22 on the border between the two states, in which five Meghalaya's villagers and a forest guard from Assam were killed and numerous others were hurt, the chief ministers of Meghalaya and Assam will meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday.
Conrad K Sangma, the Meghalaya chief minister, will arrive for the meeting on Thursday afternoon while Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam chief minister, is already in New Delhi for a ceremony to commemorate the 400th birthday of the great Ahom general Lachit Borpukhan. According to representatives of the Union Home Ministry, the federal government is in close contact with both state governments about the critical issue and is engrossed in the case.
The police shooting was unprovoked, and the two CMs agreed that it could have been prevented. Furthermore, they concurred that there was no border dispute involved and that the conflict was caused by timber-related issues.
