Father Murders His Children in Meghalaya, Citizens Protest with Candlelight March
Citizens in Shillong hold a candlelight vigil to mourn the recent death of two minor children in Nongrah, amid the murder of two minor children in Shillong. On Monday, the Awaken India Movement held an event in Khyndai Lad, in the heart of the city.
Last week, a father allegedly murdered his two little children, aged four and two years, in Wahktieh, Nongrah Nonglum, by silting their throat in a horrifying tragedy that shocked the city.
Joefreeson Jana, identified as the father, is believed to have disappeared after committing the crime. Later he was arrested in the evening of the same day when the body of the kids was recovered.
It was the man’s habit to take his two children for a walk on every evening, according to a relative.
The relative stated that they went to Rynjah police station at 11.30 p.m. on June 29 to register a FIR because they were unable to contact the father because his phone was switched off. Residents, on the other hand, first saw the bodies of the two youngsters on Tuesday morning, June 30th, at 8.15 a.m.
Meanwhile, SP (City) Vivek Syiem and his crew raced to the scene and roped off the area.
This heinous crime was condemned by Rangbah Shnong of Nongrah, B Pyngrope. Meanwhile, the possibility that the father committed suicide after the murder has not been ruled out by authorities. The bodies of the two kids were then transported to NEIGHRIMS for autopsy.
A CSWO spokesman has condemned the death of the two minors, saying such crimes should be strongly opposed in any civil society.
The organisation asked the police to nab the person involved in the killing and speed up the investigation into such heinous crimes.
