Meghalaya Lost A Gem; Neil Nongkynrih Founder of Shillong Chamber Choir passes away

In a tragic twist of fate, the people of Meghalaya and the country were stunned to learn that one of the gems had been lost. Neil Nongkynrih, the founder of the Shillong Chamber Choir (SCC) and a prominent music composer, died in Mumbai on Wednesday following a brief illness, according to Choir officials.

He died at the Reliance Hospital in Mumbai after a brief illness. He was the 52-year-old music composer who led the SCC to national recognition following a reality TV programme approximately a decade ago, they were the first from Shillong to win a huge reality show.

For the past three months, Neil and the whole Choir have been working in Mumbai. “He was admitted to the hospital yesterday and passed away this evening after surgery,” said a group representative.Neil’s who received the Padma Shri honour in 2015, brought laurels to the state and made the people of Meghalaya extremely proud. His mortal remains will be returned to his hometown as soon as all formalities in Mumbai are finished.

Conrad Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, expressed his condolences on Neil Nongkynrih’s death. CM Sangma took on Twitter to say that the country had lost a jewel today.

“The tragic death of Padma Shri Neil Nongkynrih, creator of the legendary Shillong Chamber Choir, has left me speechless. He was a mentor of the country’s best choir, which wowed audiences wherever they went. Today, we have lost a treasure “In a tweet, CM Sangma stated.
