Police recovered weapons and explosives hidden in Tura’s Rimpu Bagan, where a sex racket had earlier been busted by police during a raid on July 22th. It was the farm house of Meghalaya BJP vice president Bernad N Marak, a member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
A team of Meghalaya Police and District Child Protection Unit officials went to Rimpu Bagan today to collect the clothes and books of the children rescued from the premises on July 22.
One structure that appeared to be a door was observed during this exercise by the police team. It was found that explosives and other weapons were hidden inside the door when they broke it open. There were 35 gelatine sticks, 100 detonators, four crossbows and 15 arrows recovered from the site
In the presence of independent witnesses, all the items were seized and will be presented in court soon.
Following the recovery, West Garo Hills Police have decided to file charges under the Explosives Substances Act, 1908 against Bernard N Marak alias Rimpu, who was brought before a Tura court today.
Meanwhile, medical test findings on one of the recovered youngsters revealed that the child had been sexually assaulted. As a result, a new FIR has been filed under the POCSO Act.
