On Friday, the East Khasi Hills District’s District Transport Officer (DTO) outlawed the operation of two-wheelers (bikes and scooters) acting as taxi services both online and off.
The Regional Transport Authority Board’s notification, which was released on Monday, states: “According to subsection (1) of section 66 of the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988, it is illegal for two-wheelers operating as taxi services to use motor cycles to transport passengers. Examples of such services include Rapido, Uber, and others. Those who violate the stated Act will face harsh punishment “.
