On Thursday, the West Jaintia Hills district administration enforced a curfew in the Meghalaya's village of Sahsniang till further orders. The curfew was implemented, according to an official announcement, in response to allegations of violence coming from various areas after the state's election results were announced.

The official statement stated, "Information of post-counting violence in Sahsniang village has been received, and there is worry that the unrest may spread and increase if left unattended.

The directive further stated, "Curfew may be declared in specified locations to ensure that the violence is immediately stopped and that the public peace is restored in the region.
